Their discovery: a diverse intake of flavonoid-rich foods \u2013 such as tea, berries, apples, and dark chocolate \u2013 is linked to a significantly lower risk of chronic disease and premature death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Are Flavonoids \u2013 And Why Should You Care?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Flavonoids are powerful plant-based bioactive molecules with anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and metabolically protective properties. They are found in:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>tea (especially green and black),<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>blueberries, strawberries, oranges,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>apples and grapes,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>dark chocolate,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>red wine (in moderation!).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">More Color \u2013 More Benefits<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>People who consumed about 500 mg of flavonoids per day (e.g. two cups of tea) had:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>a 16% lower risk of death,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>about a 10% lower risk of heart disease, diabetes, and lung disease.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>However, those who consumed a greater variety of flavonoids achieved even better results \u2013 even though their total intake was the same. This means that drinking tea alone is not enough \u2013 it's important to consume different types of flavonoids from various sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Each Flavonoid Has Its Own Function<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Scientists emphasize that different types of flavonoids act in different ways:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>some improve blood pressure,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>others lower cholesterol,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>some reduce inflammation or support brain function.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s why a colorful diet is recommended \u2013 the more colorful, the healthier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The First Guidelines on Flavonoids<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>This research contributed to the development of the first nutritional recommendations for flavonoids, which advise not only increasing intake but also increasing diversity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Simple changes like adding berries, one apple a day, and a cup of green tea can have a powerful cumulative effect on health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-right\"><em>Source: Benjamin H.
